BOC 2001: Picture Gallery
Most of the pictures from the other BOC 2001 pages were video captures from the HI8 video I shot of the trip.  Below are still pictures taken by Dick Juppenlatz and Frank Palumbo during the trip.
Dick's Pictures
Small Navy aircraft carrier off Cape Henry on our return.  We saw what appeared to be the same ship on our departure.  We guessed it was on some PR mission for dignitaries or Navy families.
Cape Henry Lighthouses, old and new.

On departure from Bermuda.  At the top, the cut leaving Hamilton Bay.  Below looking back into the cut at St. Georges Harbor, having just left Bermuda.
Mike and Liz early in the outbound leg to Bermuda.

Frank's Pictures
A very large (200'?) yacht anchored just below St. David's Island on Bermuda.  This yacht was owned by one of John and Rita Cook's neighbors.  John and Rita explained that the owner never took the boat sailing, but rather kept anchored in this bay as a guest house.  Apparently he liked guests, but not too close.  Billionaires don't have to make too many compromises.
One of the many alleys with shops and restaurants in Hamilton, Bermuda.  Since the last time I was in Bermuda (1988) the quality of the restaurants in Hamilton had improved tremendously.  The prices were still outrageously high, but at least now there is at least some level of quality.  We ate out most of the evenings in Bermuda, and had a number of excellent meals.
Looking past Sarah, in her berth at the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club, watching the local racing fleet in Hamilton Bay.  I think these are mostly J24s.
Our departure day from Bermuda coincided with the departure of the cruise ships.  Here we are being overtaken by the Pacific Princess (the original "Love Boat") on the run from Hamilton back to St. Georges, where we had to clear customs for departure.  There are normally three cruise ships in Bermuda at any given time.  They typically divide their time in Bermuda between St. Georges and Hamilton.
Under sail sometime during our trip from Bermuda back to the Chesapeake Bay.
Dick Juppenlatz and myself during one of the night watches.
Dick with one of the many Flying Fish that landed on deck each night.  This was the typical size, we never received a fish on deck large enough to cook.  Although Dick seems to think Flying Fish Sushi should be on the menu.
Serving Champagne to celebrate the end of the voyage upon our departure from Little Creek, VA having just had the broken engine water pump replaced.  We were heading up the Chesapeake Bay back to our home port of Town Creek on the Patuxent River.
Frank did like sunsets.
