On October 9, our second day heading south, Mike and got an
early start out of the Great Wicomico River. We wanted to get as far
south of Norfolk as practical that day. We got underway shortly before
dawn and headed out into the Bay.
As we departed the Great Wicomico the sun was
just rising over the bay. There was a bank of steam fog on the bay -
the result of the cold air moving over the still warm bay waters.
Once more we were forced to motor into a Chesapeake calm.
By 4:00 PM we entered Norfolk Harbor and passed
the U.S. Navy Atlantic Fleet docks.
We continued down the Elizabeth River
and through
the locks
at Great Bridge, then took a slip at the Atlantic Yacht Basin (blue arrow on
the map).
