October 14, 2004

I have been using Verizon Wireless and a Sierra Wireless card to access the Internet and publish this web for over a year.  I purchased the Verizon service because it looked like it had fairly continuous coverage along the entire SE coast.  I expected to be able access the Internet at most ports along the ICW (wherever cell phone service is robust).  Since we left Coinjock I have been unable to connect to Verizon Wireless from the boat.  When we docked in Beaufort and still could not get access I called Verizon and learned they do not have Wireless Internet coverage anywhere on the NC coast and very little coverage outside of Charleston in SC.  I've learned most upscale marinas on the ICW provide WIFI access to the Internet.  The Beaufort Town Dock, where we are staying, is one such marina.  So I purchased a Linksys WIFI card for my computer and once again have access to the Internet.  I used that card to publish this latest update.
