On this page are some pictures I've received from Jack & Patricia while on their cruise.  I've added whatever comments they provided along with the pictures.  Click on the pictures to view an enlarged image.
Azores to UK:
Whale Encounter The whale is, like every nuclear sub, mostly hidden.  The small fin (characteristic of the Fin species) is about 1/3 or 1/4 back from the head. This one was in a family pod of 3 whales, about 4 days out from Falmouth. VERY impressive when alongside one's boat!

Falmouth Landfall
Falmouth Harbor John in particular, being on the Chesapeake, will find the oyster dredger working under sail to be pretty amazing. Isn't that quite a mix that Pat captured: the new (lighthouse) and the old.

Thought you'd all get a kick out of seeing what the 'Falmouth Week' festivities look like - from a bird's eye view and also 'up close & personal'.  In the 'jammed' pic, can you find WHOOSH?

Since you're all boat owners, take a look at some of these older 'more traditional' boats...do we dare voice a comment about how hard the upkeep on OUR boats is?!

Plymouth Wes kept saying to us both "Think about the tides..." so I thought you'd all find the attached jpeg interesting. This wasn't even at low water and shows one of the marinas & also the university sailing center; these are adjacent to a tidal lock thru which a yacht was transiting as we arrived at the walkway, which is why I had the time to snap this.

Thames River Approach "For those of you, like us, who were unaware that the entire Thames River can be shut off, just like turning a valve on the hose bib outside your home, you might find these pics pretty amazing. The two shots were taken as we passed thru the Thames Barrier, and while working comms with Wichford Control that was much like the radio procedure when entering a Class D airspace and working one's way into the pattern and getting cleared for a landing.

This is closed monthly for maintenance & to verify operation, and is open to the public (from the land side) on organized tours. We've marked it on our "Musts" list; it would be fascinating to watch it used when a storm surge is forecast."

St. Katherine's Dock, London "Finally worked out both local logistics & personal priorities, so here are a few pics you might find helpful in 'picturing' the place where we will be wintering...

As the pic of us in our slip shows, the wx here has been far better than we expected. Saturday was actually HOT and I wished I had shorts on. Pretty ironic that it was that day I chose to put up the cockpit side curtains!"

Malta, Rolex Middle-Sea Regatta Click on picture to view at full resolution "Thought you each might find a few pics of the race boats here for the Rolex Middle Sea Race to be entertaining.

"ALFA ROMEO won (elapsed time), tho' it was a slow race due to light conditions for much of the period. Still...just watching the big boys pick up speed like sports cars while juggling positions at the line, in no more than 10 kts of wind, was amazing.

"As one crew on MORNING GLORY explained to us: 'No berths, just sail bags; no water tanks, just watermaker; no real food, just freeze dried stuff; even get nasty comments when I bring my foul weather boots with me. 'Weight! Weight! Weight!' they keep shouting.'
